2017 Parkinson's SA Scholarships

Parkinson’s SA was established in 1983 to provide services and represent people with Parkinson’s and their families.

1. Research Foundation

As a result of a bequest from the late Mr Norman Weir, a person with Parkinson’s, Parkinson’s SA has established a Research Foundation and as part of that Foundation wishes to encourage research into Parkinson’s disease at the Honours level.

The current scholarship of $3000 is being offered to an Honours student in South Australia whose main focus of study is Parkinson’s disease, whether in a medical, health science or social science field.

To be considered, students are asked to complete this form, have it signed by their supervisor and submit it to olivia@parkinsonssa.org.au by Friday 30 June 2017.

For further information please contact Olivia Nassaris, Communications & Development Coordinator, on the email above or by phone on 8357 8909.

Applications will be considered by an expert panel and the selected student will be advised. The result will be shown on the Parkinson’s SA website www.parkinsonssa.org.au.

In 2015, we selected 2 Scholarships to:

  • Guowen Hu who is undertaking a science based project
  • Ashleigh Watson who is undertaking a project in her capacity as an Occupational Therapy student

The first scholarship in 2013 was won by Patrick Faulkner who has continued his studies and is currently undertaking a PhD in Parkinson's.

2. Alison Ballantyne Scholarship

In honour of Alison Ballantyne, former Board Members and tireless advocate for Parkinson's SA, and herself a person with Parkinson's, Parkinson's SA wishes to encourage research into Parkinson's disease at the Honours level through the provision of scholarships.  These scholarships have been made possible by the generous endowment of Donna and Geoff McKinnon.
